REMIREMONT
LE MUSÉE CHARLES FRIRY
Description
Located in a recently restored 18th century former canons' residence, it has seen a succession of art lovers and artists, and has retained the character and charm of a house of collectors and artists. A true journey back in time. Its centrepiece is "Le Vielleur à sa sacoche" by Georges de La Tour, known only by forty works preserved in the world, not to mention the portrait of the Moorish woman of Moret and the engravings of Rembrandt, Callot, Goya. With a rich heritage of paintings, art objects and furniture, it allows visitors to discover a fully furnished and decorated house in the style of the first half of the 19th century. The museum park has two 18th century fountains that are classified as M.H.
The Friry Museum has benefited from works to extend and modernise its facilities and make it more accessible in 2020: Pierre Waidmann's workshop has been reconstructed and devoted to his work and behind the scenes of his preparatory work (bookbinding, engraving, photography, drawing, painting), the 18th century pharmacy (M.H.) at the Remiremont hospital, a room devoted to the works of Charles Friry, and new works from the reserves.
