MONT LES NEUFCHATEAU
BOURLEMONT FORT
Description
In the western Vosges, Fort de Bourlémont is an important element in the defensive system of the eastern border set up by General Séré de Rivières after 1871. It was built over three years, from July 15, 1878 to July 15, 1881. Protected by 3 to 7-meter thick earthen blocks, it was designed to withstand the impact of black powder shells without damage.
The fort has remained in its original state, allowing visitors to discover its fine masonry work and gain an insight into the life of a garrison as it was at the end of the 19th century.
