GREUX
BERMONT HERMITAGE
Description
Located on the territory of Greux, in the Vosges department, three kilometers (1,8 mile) north to Joan of Arc’s birthplace, the chapel and the hermitage of Bermont have watched over the valley for over a thousand years on the Meuse valley. Joan liked to go there as a pilgrim on Saturdays and often during the week, to give candles and flowers to Our Lady and to pray.
The foundation of this poor sanctuary is lost in the mists of time, in the shadow of Saint Maurice and Saint Martin. A humble land of the Church, a discreet witness to the history of France since Hugh Capet, Bermont has nevertheless survived the trials of the centuries. Today, the association Notre Dame de Bermont – Sainte Jehanne d’Arc (Our Lady of Bermont- Saint Joan of Arc), a small link in a long chain, tends to restore this modest sanctuary, respecting its history and eremitic tradition, but also to help people discover its history, so endearing.
