AUTREVILLE

ST BRICE'S CHURCH - AUTREVILLE

Description

Located in the middle of the village the length of which overlooks a small river, the St Brice church was built in the 12th century. The Romanesque style is very dominant and its bell tower is a very good example of it. Like mot churches of the time, it still has traces of “fortifications”, which replaced a castle in case of troubles.

During the 16th century the building undergone significant modifications, including in its nave. The Flamboyant Gothic Style appears also in the different bays.

Other complements arrived in the 17th century with a certain classicism on very limited parts like the doors for example.

But overall, the spirit stays medieval, between Romanesque and Gothic.
