BAN SUR MEURTHE CLEFCY
LA SCIERIE DU LANCOIR
Description
Le Lançoir sawmill (first built in 1611-1625) lies in the Straiture Gorge. Local timber has been sawn at Le Lançoir for centuries using the water from the mountain stream.
A visit to this old hydraulically-operated sawmill, which is a listed historic building, reveals how difficult life was for the sawyers in the 19th century and how ingenious the men of the mountains could be. You'll also find out about the thousand and one advantages of the saw bench, a very carefully designed piece of machinery that was amazing, despite its apparent rusticity. Very efficient technology and marvellously simple.
