REMIREMONT
LA FONTAINE D'AMPHITRITE
Description
Located in the grounds of the Charles Friry municipal museum, this 18th-century fountain, listed as a Historic Monument since 1966, is a masterpiece of Rococo style. It depicts Amphitrite, the goddess of the sea and wife of Poseidon, residing in a gilded palace beneath the waves. Recognisable by the crab claw on her forehead, she is often associated with Aphrodite in ancient art. Her Roman equivalent is Salacie, the goddess of springs.
The surrounding park provides an ideal setting for admiring this work while enjoying the beauty of the gardens. Accessible from the Musée Friry park or the Monseigneur Rodhain park, the fountain is an invitation to discover and relax.
