LA FONTAINE D'AMPHITRITE

Description

An 18th-century Rocaille-style fountain in the grounds of the Charles Friry municipal museum (listed as a Historic Monument in 1966).

Amphitrite is a goddess and the female personification of the sea. She is the wife of Poseidon and lives with him in the golden palace beneath the sea. She often resembles Aphrodite in ancient works of art. She is mainly distinguished by the crab claw on her forehead.

Her Roman counterpart is Salacie, goddess of springs.

Access via the Musée Friry park or the Monseigneur Rodhain park
