REMIREMONT
LA FONTAINE MARIE-THERESE
Description
Known to Romarimontains as the Fontaine des Dauphins or the Fontaine de la Courtine, this elegant fountain is located in the Place de Lattre de Tassigny. It is the first in a series of fountains commissioned by Mayor Stanislas Bresson and was inaugurated in 1828 by the Duchess of Angoulême, daughter of Marie-Antoinette and Louis XVI, who had links with the parish priests of Plombières-les-Bains.
Originally, this fountain had a dual function: it served as a reservoir for part of the town, while also supplying two other fountains, the Cygne fountain and the fountain in the rue de la Franche Pierre, which have now disappeared.
Although its original appearance has been preserved, the Dauphins fountain has lost its reservoir function and now operates in a closed circuit. It remains an important part of the region's historical and architectural heritage.
