PLOMBIERES LES BAINS
COTEAU DE LA VIERGE
Description
The Coteau de la Vierge: History and panorama
Overlooking Plombières-les-Bains, the Coteau de la Vierge offers a magnificent panorama. At the summit, the Saint-Joseph chapel (1858) features a neo-Gothic style, a marble altar and votive offerings dedicated to the Virgin.
The statue of Notre-Dame des Eaux, erected in 1855 after the town escaped cholera, is a cast-iron work by Fabish, a replica of the Virgin of Fourvière. Every 15 August, a torch-lit pilgrimage pays homage to her.
A path links the hillside to the Notre-Dame des Champs chapel. Discover this place of history and serenity by following the trail available from the Tourist Office.
