GIRMONT VAL D AJOL
ÉGLISE DE L'IMMACULÉE-CONCEPTION
Description
The church at Girmont-Val-d'Ajol, whose real name is "Notre Dame de l'Immaculée Conception", was built in 1867. Neo-Gothic in style, it is linked to the very origins of the village.
For this hamlet and those of Hérival and Méreille, remote not only from administrative services but also from the church in Val-d'Ajol, religious life was complicated by the need to attend mass, perform baptisms and receive the sacraments. The 800 or so inhabitants of these hamlets, led by the 3 Martin du Girmont brothers, asked for official separation from Val-d'Ajol and decided in 1866 to build their own church.
The first mass was celebrated in 1870.
