REMIREMONT
LA STATUE DU VOLONTAIRE
Description
Created in 1899 by sculptor Paul-François Choppin, this statue pays tribute to the civic-mindedness of the people of the Remiremont district, who sent the first volunteers to defend their homeland in 1792. An emblem of the town, it stands at the intersection of rue Charles-de-Gaulle and rue de la Xavée. Listed as a Historic Monument since 1996, the statue and its base bear the inscription ‘Un volontaire de 1792’ on one side and ‘Don de l'État 1899’ on the other.
