REMIREMONT
STREET CHARLES DE GAULLE
Description
Rue Charles de Gaulle is Remiremont's main thoroughfare, lined with historic arcades dating from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. These arcades, which range in shape from narrow round arches to basket-handle arches, bear witness to the town's commercial past and continue to play a central role in local economic life. In summer, they are decorated with flowers, and in winter, festive lights create a warm and lively atmosphere.
At the entrance to the street, the **statue du Volontaire**, a bronze work by the sculptor Léon Chopin, pays tribute to the soldiers from the Remiremont district who defended the republic during the French Revolution. Inaugurated in 1899, this statue commemorates the courage and sacrifice of these soldiers.
