EPINAL
THE CHINESE TOWER
Description
No need to travel to Asia to discover this curious tower: Epinal is much closer! Put on a good pair of shoes, and climb the 80 steps of the "Italian" staircase to discover a magnificent panorama at the top and a secret access the Castle Park...
But first, a bit of history: in 1804, Christophe Doublat, deputy of the Department Council of the Vosges, acquired the ruins of the Epinal Castle, where he laid out a landscaped garden. He then decided to build this tower in the shape of a Chinese pagoda to cover the staircase leading to the site from his home below. The Chinese style was very fashionable at the time. After becoming a banker, he went bankrupt and committed suicide in 1840... The property was then bought and bequeathed to the city. The Tower, listed in 1992, leans against the rocky spur and has been completely restored, to the delight of lovers of original photos! Our best shots: the red painted wooden balconies, the pink sandstone cliff, the interior staircase forming a beautiful spiral from above, the beautiful panoramic view of Epinal, or the smiling faces of your tribe, family, children and friends that we were able to surprise with this unusual place!
