GERARDMER
THE CHAPEL OF SAINT-ETIENNE DE KICHOMPRÉ
Description
In the hamlet of Kichompré in Gérardmer, on the road to Grandes-Aumontzey, a pretty chapel with the dimensions of a church calls out:
The Saint-Etienne de Kichompré chapel was built in 1901 by the Garnier-Thiébaut family, textile industrialists, (household linen) next to their factory.
The Finnish style is surprising. It is a reproduction in granite stone of a Finnish chapel model, built there in wood.
Inside, the framework is remarkable. The choir, which no longer has an altar, is decorated with 4 paintings representing the 4 evangelists.
When you enter, on the left, you can see 4 statues whose origin and even the name of 2 of them are not known.
A medal of the Virgin found at a depth of 2 meters during the digging of the foundations was embedded in the wall.
A monument to the dead of the hamlet was leaned against the right of the nave.
