There are very few copies of this type in France. The side symbolising the Eucharist was regularly used for ordinary masses, when the more austere side decorated with skulls on a black backgroun was used during funeral ceremonies.
The most interesting fact is that this work of art was not found for several centuries before it was discovered in 2014 by a carpenter who was restoring the liturgical pieces of furniture of the church...
